In a recent study on the State of the Global Workplace by Gallup, only 12% of employees in Nigeria are engaged at work. In other words, only about one in nine workers are psychologically committed to their jobs and likely to be deriving fulfilment at their jobs and making positive contributions to their organizations. The bulk of Nigerian employees- 65% — are “not engaged,” meaning that about one in three Nigerian workers lack motivation and satisfaction and are less likely to invest discretionary effort in organizational goals or outcomes. And 23% are “actively disengaged,” indicating that about one out of five workers are unhappy and unproductive at work and liable to spread negativity to coworkers.
